Barbie Hsu has finally been buried more than one month after her sudden death. What is disrupting her from ‘rest in peace’?

On February 2, the news of the sudden passing of renowned actress Barbie Hsu in Japan due to pneumonia triggered by influenza shocked Chinese communities worldwide.

According to media reports from TVBS, Barbie Hsu had previously expressed her wish for eco-friendly tree burial, allowing the deceased to merge with nature. While some family members respected her wishes, her current husband, Koo Jun-yup, hopes to secure a burial plot to provide relatives and friends with a physical location for future memorial visits.

It is precisely due to this disagreement that Barbie Hsu, who passed away more than one month ago, has finally to be laid to rest at a cemetery in Taiwan on March 15.

Open Communication and Pre-Planning‌

The controversy over Barbie Hsu’s final resting place highlights a fundamental dilemma: how the living family members balance a deceased loved one’s wishes with practical realities. This underscores the importance of open, honest communication with family and pre-planning regarding the final arrangements.

In Canada, more people are starting to consult about funeral services in advance, including seniors who bring their children and younger generations who plan for their parents, to avoid being unprepared when the time comes.

The Benefits of Pre-Planning

  • Savings: Planning early offers cost savings of up to thousands of dollars.
  • Reduces the burden on your family: Planning your final arrangements ahead of time reduces the responsibilities on your family at their time of distress.
  • Peace of mind: Gain comfort in knowing your plans are ready.
